Starting a Game
The first duty is to establish which player will break. This can be accomplished
in one of two ways:
- Coin Toss - winner choosing which to break or shoot second.
- Lag as follows:
Both players shoot a ball from behind the breakline, banking it off the footrail.
The closest ball to the headrail wins the lag. If a players ball touches any side
rail or enters a pocket that player loses the the lag. If both players foul, the
lag is repeated until there is a winner or the coin toss option is selected.

The Rack
All balls should be touching and the rack should be as tight as possible. The head
ball should be on the spot and the 8-ball in the center of the rack. The player
breaking may call for a re-rack.

Breaking
The cue ball should be placed behind the head string. The head ball or second ball
must be hit first and at least four balls, not including the cue ball, must be pocketed
or strike a rail.
If a legal break is not made:
If no foul has been committed the balls are re-racked and the same player
breaks again.
If there is a foul or 3 unsuccessful attempts have been made by the breaking player
the balls are re-racked and the opponent breaks.
